What you need to know
Who can attend? Archery is a fabulous sport because it is suited to all ages. Children 10 and over are welcome, and there
is no upper age limit. We have
grandparents shooting with (and outshooting) their grandchildren. We welcome families, and some parents have
told us that Saturday morning archery is the only time that their teenager
talks to them!
I have a disability, can I shoot? At the club we cater for wheelchair access to the shooting line. We are able to accommodate people with
physical and learning disabilities, and ask that you speak to the Coaching
Coordinator to discuss your individual needs before attending for the first
time.
When and where? Classes for beginners are on Saturday
mornings from 10 am to 12 noon, and run all year round with a short break over
Christmas. You will need to arrive
around 9:30 am for the 10o-clock shoot. There is a tea break at around 11am, with tea, coffee and Milo supplied
by the club.
We are located at Lot 27 Grant Street, ORANGE GROVE (next to the Orange
Grove Pony Club).
What do I need? The club supplies all the equipment that you will need, including bows,
arrows, targets and safety equipment. You will need to wear closed in shoes, and fitted clothing, preferably
a T-shirt or polo shirt, no sleeveless tops are permitted. A hat and sunscreen are essential all year
round, and we recommend that you bring a bottle of water with you. The club also sells cold bottled water for
just $1 per bottle.
What happens in class? On arrival, coaching staff will select an appropriate bow and arrows for
you. The first thing you will be taught
is our safety measures, as we pride ourselves on an exemplary safety record and
intend to keep it this way. Our accredited
Archery Instructors, all with Working With Children certification, will then
begin by teaching you the basics, with a staged advancement over time according
to your progress. On completion of the 7
week introductory course you will receive a certificate.
How much? Beginners classes cost $20 per week for adults and $16 per week for juniors
under 18. There is a one-off payment of
$2 for temporary insurance that is payable at your first session. Payments are by cash only on the day. The temporary insurance allows you to shoot
for 12 weeks, at which time you may decide to join the club – we are happy to
discuss this with you once you have a feel for whether archery will be the
right sport for you. We advise that you
not purchase any equipment, particularly over the internet, until you speak to
one of our experienced archers.
